Martin Raeburn ยท My story

A career built around
solving real problems.

The recurring thread through my career has been moving toward situations where business, technology and people need to work better together โ€” especially when the answer is not obvious and something useful needs to be built.

The recurring theme

From commercial operations to technology, transformation and business creation.

I began in commercially grounded operating environments, learning how organisations actually work: how customers buy, how teams deliver, how priorities compete and how execution differs from a plan on paper.

That naturally led into broader enterprise and industrial work, where the challenge was often not a lack of ideas but the difficulty of connecting people, process, technology and commercial reality.

Transformation and consulting work reinforced a simple view: advice only creates value when it changes what happens next. I became increasingly focused on operating models, systems, automation and the practical mechanisms that turn strategy into repeatable execution.

Technology then became less a specialist subject and more an operating layer โ€” a way to make businesses clearer, faster, more measurable and more capable.

Building, not just advising

The most useful work often sits between strategy and execution.

That is why my work increasingly spans building companies, creating digital products, developing automation, shaping commercial systems and operating across a group of specialist businesses. I prefer to test ideas in the real world, improve them with evidence and create structures that can continue working beyond a single engagement.

Today

The Raeburn Group is the current expression of that approach.

As Group Managing Director, I work across strategic direction, business development, technology, venture development and group-level opportunities. The objective is not to build a collection of disconnected brands, but a set of focused businesses that share standards, capability and a bias toward practical execution.
